The plan was simple – Attack the batsmen with short-pitched deliveries. The ploy worked effectively as four key batsmen including openers Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer succumbed to it that derailed KKR’s innings at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday.

RCB’s bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep bowled with the new ball and started attacking the KKR batsmen with short-pitched deliveries right from the start. Akash Deep came into bowl the fourth over and found success in his very first ball as he banged a short-pitched delivery to Venkatesh Iyer, who was struggling in the middle. The opener only managed to mistime it as the ball went high down the legside and the bowler took a good running catch.
Next, it was the turn of Mohammad Siraj. Ajinkya Rahane who looked in fine touch against CSK with a 44 off 34 balls, pulled a bouncer from Siraj that landed straight into the hands of Shahbaz Ahmed at deep square leg.

Akash Deep came back yet again in his very next over to dismiss Nitish Rana. Rana had just came into the crease and smashed Akash Deep for a six in the second ball of the over. The bowler came back with a bouncer at around 140 kph, which took the top edge and David Willey completed a good running catch.
Harshal Patel too joined the party soon. He was introduced to the attack in the 12th over of the innings and banged a short one to Sam Billings who attempts a pull shot. But it took the edge and Kohli at long on completed the catch that left KKR reeling at 83/7.

Wanindu Hasaranga too starred with the ball by taking four crucial wickets – of which he dismissed Shreyas Iyer and Sheldon Jackson in consecutive deliveries – to help RCB dismiss Shreyas Iyer’s men for 128 in 18.5 overs. Hasaranga finished with figures of 4-0-24-4, which is his best-ever figure in IPL so far, while Akash Deep took three wickets.
