MS Dhoni has been facing issues with his knees. He limped off the field after CSK lost their last game against RR. Later, head coach Stephan Fleming confirmed that he has some issues with his knees. It was expected that Dhoni might play his part only as an impact player during the batting innings for CSK. However the 41-year old veteran put to rest all the speculations as he walked out for the toss at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, 17th April 2023.

RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. At the toss, Dhoni confirmed that his team has got one forced change with Sisanda Magala missing out fue to an injury. He has been replaced by Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana.
