Potter’s team kept up the superb style of play that has led to their recent great run, forcing a number of chances but Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Kohn held strong. The hosts occasionally moved forward themselves, serving as a reminder to Chelsea that they are a threat.

In the second half, Salzburg got out to a quick start and quickly pulled even. On the 49th minute, 21-year-old Adamu glided his first-time finish past Kepa after Maximilian Wober had surged down the left side and sent an inch-perfect cross to him.
Chelsea, as anticipated, made a strong comeback in the pursuit of regaining the lead. After having a shot saved by the goal line, Potter’s team took the lead again 15 minutes later on another powerful strike, this time from Havertz.
Christian Pulisic advanced with the ball before passing it to Havertz, who moved it to his left foot and fired a powerful shot from beyond the penalty area off the crossbar.
