With the 6-0, 6-1, 7-5 victory, Nadal has earned his 18th consecutive win over Richard Gasquet in the history of the ATP Tour. Nadal had a shaky start in the first game of the first set in which he served. He was trailing 0-40 but a couple of unforced error from Gasquet shifted the momentum towards Nadal and the Spaniard then went on to win two more points to hold his first serve. From then on it was a one-way traffic as Nadal broke Gasquet thrice to win the first set 6-0.
Nadal also won the first three games of the second set. Gasquet finally got on the scorebaord thanks to a Nadal return error, the Frenchman lifted his arms in celebration. It was that kind of match for the Frenchman. However it was the only game that the Frenchman could win in the second set as Nadal raced to a 6-1 win and moved into the third set.
Nadal began the third set by breaking Gasquet’s first service game and seemingly putting himself on the verge of victory. But Gasquet’s made a comeback into the contest from there. He finally looked to find his footing in the contest as he provided some good fight. He broke Nadal for the first time in the match to take the score 2-2. From then on, both the players held on to their respective service games as the score read 5-5. Nadal did not let the encounter get any trickier as he won the 12th game of the contest to win the match in straight sets and advance to the fourth round.
