Both Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud faced each other last in a group encounter at the ATP Finals this year. Nadal won the contest 7-5, 7-5 in straight sets. However, Nadal failed to progress to the semifinal stage, while Ruud finished as runner-up in the tournament. After finishing their official ATP season, Nadal invited Ruud to join him for a week-long South American tour.

The tour will begin at Argentina in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, where the duo will clash in a singles encounter, which will be followed by a mixed doubles match-up. In the doubles, Rafael Nadal will partner with former doubles and singles World No. 3 Gabriela Sabatini, and Casper Ruud will team up with former doubles World No. 1 Gisela Dulko.

Following their match at the Argentinian Capital, they will travel to Santiago (Chile), followed by Bogotá, (Colombia), Quito (Ecuador) and Belo Horizonte (Brazil). The tour will finally end in Mexico City on December 1.

At Chile, Nadal will face World No.86 Alejandro Tabilo in the singles. The Spaniard will once again be playing against Casper Ruud in the other four cities on the tour.

Rafael Nadal had a great start to the year as he won the Australian Open and French Open to clinch a record 23 Grand Slam titles. However he didn’t enjoy a last few months as he suffered a abdominal injury that made him withdraw before his semifinal contest at Wimbledon. He then returned for the US Open but suffered a fourth round exit in the year-ending Grand Slam. He was the top seed at the ATP Finals but bowed out from the group stages of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Ruud has enjoyed his best season on the ATP Tour in his career. He finished as runner-up at the French Open after losing the final against Rafael Nadal. He also reached the final at the US Open and yet again secured the runner-up spot after losing to Carlos Alcaraz. His runner-up finish made him reach career-best World No.2 spot. At the season-ending ATP Finals, he made it to the final and finished as runner-up after losing the final against Novak Djokovic.
