Rafael Nadal Injury: Rafael Nadal is set to be out of action for the next 6 to 8 weeks. The World No.2, who has bowed out from the second round of the Australian Open, has suffered a Grade 2 muscle tear to his left leg. The 22-time Grand Slam champion took to Twitter to post the update on the injury on Thursday following an MRI Scan. Follow Australian Open 2023 LIVE updates on InsideSport.IN

Nadal has torn the Iliacus Psoas muscle present close to the joint of the leg and hip. Nadal suffered the injury during his second round contest at the Australian Open on Wednesday against MacKenzie McDonald. It is reported that the Spaniard underwent an MRI Scan after the game and has been diagnosed with the Grade 2 muscle tear that will take 6 to 8 weeks to recover.

Confirming the extent of his injury through his Twitter account, Nadal wrote, “Good afternoon. I have carried out medical tests after the defeat yesterday. The MRI shows a grade 2 lesion in the Iliacus Psoas of the left leg.”

Nadal also added that he will be seeking anti-inflammatory physiotherapy in order to recover. “Now it’s sports rest and anti-inflammatory physiotherapy. Normal recovery time 6 to 8 weeks.”

During his second round match at the Australian Open, after losing the first set he was down by a break when he crouched down in pain clutching his hip. He immediately took a medical timeout and received treatment. Seeing her husband in pain, his wife, Maria Francisca Perello was not able to control her tears.

The 36-year old however came back and looked good in the third set. But he conceded a break in the end and lost the match 4-6, 4-6, 5-7. It was his earlies exit from the ustralian Open since his first round defeat in the tournament in 2016.

Nadal is now likely to return during the European clay court season in April. He would want to make himself ready and get some match practice before his title defence at the French Open.
