Pakistan Super League Troubles: The PSL’s latest edition will be played in Karachi from January 27 to February 7 and in Lahore from February 10-27. At least three people were killed and 28 injured Thursday after a bomb blast rocked a busy shopping market of Pakistan’s Lahore, police said.

Some of the international players have reportedly raised doubts after the blast & have delayed their arrival. The PCB though has released a statement saying that the blast hasn’t dampened the spirits of international players.

According to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) PCB Salman Naseer, many international players are taking part in PSL 7 and the Lahore blast has not dampened their spirits.

“England’s cricketer Lewis Gregory has arrived in Karachi to represent Karachi Kings in PSL7,” he added.

The first match will be staged under the lights of the National Stadium, where Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans will go head-to-head.

Covid-19 Rocks PSL 7: In the pre-testing phase, two players and two team officials have been tested positive for COVID-19, including 40 employees of the hotel, said the COO, adding that the employees are isolated

  • PCB reveals over 250 tests were conducted since Thursday.
  • Players and support staff members who have tested positive have been isolated.
  • Rest of the the players who were tested negative will be allowed to resume training from January 24.

According to a statement issued by the board, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (CCO) Salman Naseer, who is also the tournament director of PSL, said that over 250 tests were conducted since Thursday and eight people tested positive, including three players and five support staff members.

“As per latest results received, in over 250 tests conducted since Thursday, three players and five support staff members have tested positive and have been isolated,” Naseer said.

These tests, according to another official, were conducted at the time of the hotel check-in and all players and staffers were negative 48 hours prior to their arrival at the hotel.

The statement said that the players and officials who had tested negative have entered the biosecure bubble and they’ll be allowed to resume training from January 24 after completing the isolation period and receiving two negative COVID-19 testing results.

Naseer added that the PCB, as a precautionary measure, had started pre-emptive testing of hotel and PCB staff from January 14. He said that the hotel and other support staff that had tested positive were released and are now isolated at their homes.

He said: “The PCB remains committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all participants so that they can play and perform to the best of their abilities.”

“In the environment that we presently live in, there will be positive cases but we have robust health and safety plans to ensure the event is played and concluded within the duration of January 27 to February 27.”
