Following Fulham’s FA Cup quarter-final match on Sunday, where three red cards were issued within 40 seconds, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Marco Silva are still waiting to learn their punishment. In addition, 54 out of the 92 teams have received fines.

Premier League fines: 15 teams that have been fined the highest

Arsenal has incurred the highest amount of fines in the Premier League, totalling £185,000, while Manchester United and Everton have also paid six-figure sums. Only five Premier League clubs have not been fined for poor on-field behaviour. The Football Association has issued over 100 fines to Premier League and EFL clubs, amounting to an astonishing £1,279,375.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s conduct towards Chris Kavanagh during Fulham’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat was appalling and he rightfully faces disciplinary action from the Football Association.

However, despite the relaunch of the “Respect” campaign at Wembley five years ago, disrespect on the field has reached an all-time low. Out of the 20 Premier League clubs, an astounding 15 have been fined by the FA, with a total sum of £932,500.

Mitrovic’s upcoming fine, along with those for Fulham and manager Silva, will easily push the total over the £1 million mark, which is a shameful milestone for the Premier League.

Arsenal sits at top of 2 tables

At the top of the list, and the one that garners the most attention, is Arsenal, having been fined a total of £185,000 due to four separate charges of “failing to control” their players. Despite criticism of Mikel Arteta’s touchline behavior, his team’s performance on the pitch has been praised.

However, the current Arsenal team seems unconcerned with their disciplinary lapses, similar to how the red cards accumulated by Arsene Wenger’s team became a running joke two decades ago.

The highest fine issued this season was the £75,000 levied on Manchester City for their behavior during a crucial match at the Emirates Stadium last month. In addition, Manchester United and Everton have also incurred fines of over £100,000 for multiple violations of the regulations.

Championship League One & League Two also included

Furthermore, in addition to the Premier League, a significant number of clubs from the Championship, League One, and League Two, specifically 15, 13, and 12 clubs respectively, have also been punished by the disciplinary department.

The Football Association employs a sliding scale for financial penalties, ensuring that the richer Premier League clubs are more severely impacted. However, for many players in Arteta’s squad, and potentially the majority of the first team, their weekly earnings far exceed the £185,000 fines imposed on them.

This also applies to other Premier League clubs. If the fines do not cause financial pain and potentially offer a competitive advantage during a match, this pattern of behavior is likely to continue.
