Premier League: Chelsea signs Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid in dying minutes of the transfer window- Chelsea went on to complete a last-minute deadline day move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old will join the London outfit on a year-long loan with an option to make his stay in England permanent in the next 12 months.

The abovementioned loan move for Saul happened very quickly with Atletico Madrid looking likely to keep hold and retain the Spaniard’s services for the summer. However, the Premier League outfit made a last-ditch approach to the LaLiga champions who decided to make a U-turn on their stand and opt to see the 26-year-old move out on loan.

Chelsea struck gold in the last 48 hours by signing Saul Niguez from Thomas Tuchel’s side on a loan fee of £4m for the ongoing 2021-22 campaign.

After completing the transfer, Saul said: ‘I am very excited to start this new challenge with Chelsea. Blues fans, I am one of you now and I can’t wait to wear the shirt, start training and see all of you.  See you soon!’

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia revealed how the club welcomes Saul to London and adds that the Spainsard completes the squad as they look to compete for honors in five different competitions this season.

The 26-year-old will hope to have a fresh start to life at Chelsea with the loan move providing him an opportunity to get back in the national team. Saul missed out on being selected for the La Roja at the Euros 2020. He has also not been called up by Luis Enrique for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in this international break.

He will be hoping to earn his place back in the Spanish squad with solid performances after moving to Stamford Bridge this season. However, Saul will find it difficult to break into a Chelsea midfield that already consists of stars like Mateo Kovacic, N Golo Kante, and UEFA men’s player of the year, Jorginho.
