The fans as well as FIFA President Gianni Infantino have been seen paying the tribute to the legend. The Brazilian defender passed away on 29th December, sending the entire footballing world into a state of sorrow. Pele was hospitalized for over a month before breathing his last at a hospital in Sau Paulo. Pele will be ultimately buried at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumenica. Vila Belmiro Stadium, the home of Santos Football Club will be holding the funeral service on Monday and Tuesday, just outside Sao Paulo. Brazilian fans will be allowed to bid farewell to one of the best players in the history of football. According to the MARCA report, Santos FC has said that a casket with the body of the late footballer is to be placed at midfield.

The funeral will take place on Monday, January 2nd at 10 am local time (6:30 IST) and will continue 24 hours, up until 10 am local time the next day. The report also states that Pele’s coffin will be carried around the streets of Santos, eventually passing in front of the house of ‘O Rei’s’ mother Celeste.

His body will be finally buried at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumenica, a vertical cementery in Santos with only family members being allowed on the premises.

His funeral will be held on Monday, with the ceremony set to continue for 24 hours.

An ailing Pele was admitted to the hospital on 29th November with advanced complications from his colon cancer. The medical board immediately stepped up to take utmost care of the legend who is also suffering from kidney and cardiac problems. With a month spent at the hospital, there apparently wasn’t any improvement in Pele’s health.

The Brazilian legend was kept in intensive care for the past couple of months, and spent Christmas in hospital in Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein hospital, where Pele was undergoing treatment, said he died at 3:27 p.m. “due to multiple organ failures resulting from the progression of colon cancer associated with his previous medical condition.”

Following the death, Pele’s family released a statement confirming his death. The statement said, “Inspiration, love marked the journey of King Pelé, who peacefully passed away today. Love, love and love, forever”.
