FC Barcelona have two options on its hands. Either, they extend Dembele’s contract now, or they sell him quickly enough. If Dembele enters the final year of his contract, then FC Barcelona’s hands will be tied. According to Fabrizio Romano, his release clause allows him to leave for £88 million during the final year of his contract. But, if it reaches July and August of 2023, that is cut down to half price at just £44 m.
Barcelona paid £135.5 m for the Frenchman in 2017 so they are desperate to agree fresh terms and avoid selling for a fraction of that price. Dembele has made 28 appearances for the Blaugrana this season and has scored eight times, but has missed the last seven games due to a hamstring injury.
