- Osaka is entering into this contest after defeating Sloane Stephens 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.
- She started 2022 by reaching the semi-finals of the Melbourne Summer Series 1.
- She however couldn’t play the semis as she suffered an abdominal injury. She then entered the Australian Open as the defending champion.
- After winning the first two matches, she suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Amanda Anisimova in the third round. Her early exit made her slip down the rankings.
After winning the first round against Sloane Stephens, Osaka said, “To play against Sloane, she just won a tournament and I’m sure she’s feeling really confident with herself, that was a really good test for me. But at the same time I do need to play a lot more matches and I do need to give myself the opportunity to get more into the swing of things.”
- Meanwhile, Kudermetova has had a good run this year as she has been a runner-up twice.
- She reached the finals at Melbourne Summer set and lost to Simona Halep. She also entered the summit clash in the Dubai Open and went down to Jelena Ostapenko.
- She also reached until the third round in the Australian Open. She however made first round exit in Doha Open and St.Petersburg Open.
- She will now be playing her first match in Indian Wells after receiving a bye in the first round.
