India started off their Uber Cup campaign in a victorious note, defeating Canada 4-1 in their opening tie in China.

Ashmita defeated world number 25 Michelle Li in hard fought games. In the first set, she defeated her rival 26-24. In the next set, she bounced back despite challenges to register a 24-22 win. With this, India opened their account in the ongoing tournament.

Isharani and Anmol defeated their opponents in straight sets in the singles tournament.

In the doubles, the duo of Priya and Shruti emerged victorious in straight sets. They beat Catherine Choi and Jeslyn Chow. The duo of Priya and Shruti clinched the first game 21-11 and went on to win the second game 21-10.

Simran Singhi and Ritka Thaker faced India’s only defeat in the opening tie. Canada managed to pull one back, with Jackie Dent and Crystal Lai defeating Simran and Ritka 21-19, 21-15. India will next face Singapore on Sunday.
