Seven Indian shuttlers including PV Sindhu and Satwik-Chirag duo qualify for Paris Olympics 2024

The top-16 shuttlers in both the men's and women's singles categories, as determined by their Olympic Games Qualification ranking on the deadline, secure their tickets to the quadrennial tournament.

Based on their Olympic Games Qualification Rankings on Monday, seven Indian shuttlers, including two-time Olympic medallist and former world champion PV Sindhu, have qualified for this year’s Paris Olympics across four categories.

The confirmation that arrived on Monday was merely a formality. PV Sindhu and the top men’s singles shuttlers, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen, had already guaranteed their spots in the Olympics, which will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11. Earlier, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) had established Monday, April 29 as the deadline for qualification based on those rankings.

One of the nation’s best bets for medals in badminton going into the Olympics is the men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who finished third in the Olympic qualification cycle.

After finishing 13th at the end of the qualification cycle, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, an Indian pair, qualified for the women’s doubles. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, the other Indian women’s doubles pair, were not successful.
