Paris 2024: 41-year-old paddler Sharath Kamal named India’s flagbearer for Olympics

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Mary Kom and Manpreet Singh were the flagbearers at the opening ceremony, while Bajrang Punia led the contingent at the closing ceremony.

The Indian Olympic Association on Thursday announced the key positions for the Indian contingent at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Veteran table tennis player Sharath Kamal will be the flagbearer for the country at the opening ceremony on July 26, while 2012 Olympics bronze medalist Mary Kom will be the Chef de Mission.

“These appointments represent a blend of experience, expertise, and leadership that will contribute significantly to the success of putting athletes on the global stages,” the IOA press release read. “Leading the delegation as the Chef de Mission will be none other than the iconic boxer, Mary Kom. Her unparalleled dedication to sports and inspiring journey make her a natural choice to guide and mentor our athletes at the Olympics.”

In-charge of shooting village operations – Gagan Narang

Chief Medical Officer – Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala
