Pakistan wrestlers disappoint at 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification, put up a poor show

Pakistan wrestlers failed to secure Paris 2024 Olympics berth, and that means, none of their pugilists have qualified for the event till now.

Sometimes, the India vs Pakistan contests are inevitable. There are bound to be comparisons where athletes from both the countries participate, and it was no different at the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification 2024. After a grueling day of competition in Bishkek, none of the four Pakistani wrestlers could make the cut, and neither did the Indians. But despite the heartbreak, the Indian wrestlers fared a bit better overall.

Pakistan Wrestlers Fail to Win Matches

In the 57 kg category, Mohammad Bilal went up against went up against Mongolia’s Munkh Erdene Batkhuyag. The former lost in the first round itself 2-8, in a lop-sided battle. In the 65 kg category, Muhammad Abdullah went up against Shaohua Yuan of China, but lost his bout.

Then their only win of the day came when Muhammad Asad Ullah beat Madushanka of Sri Lanka 10-0, but lost in the very next round to Kazakhstan’s Nurkozha 0-10. Lastly, in the 125 kg category, Zaman Anwar lost 0-11 to Kazakhstan’s Yusup Batirmurzaev. That means, till now, no Pakistani has sealed a berth for Paris 2024.

Aman Sehrawat Misses Paris 2024 Berth Narrowly

One of India’s brightest hopes, Aman Sehrawat lost to Gulomjon Abdullaev of Uzbekistan in the semis of the 57 kg category. He lost 0-10, by technical superiority. Having said that, this was the best performance among all the other Indian participants.

The 20-year-old beat Yerassyl Mukhtaruly with a 10-0 in the opening match. Then he beat Sunggwon Kim of Korea 11-1 to reach the semis. Had he won the match, he would have secured berth to Paris 2024.
