It has been a few months since ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was seen in action. As he gears up to defend his Tokyo 2020 title, he is all set to compete in his first tournament of the year, in Doha Diamond League on May 10. While it was expected that Neeraj would continue to train abroad, and participate in tournaments there, now it turns out that he would also compete at the 27th National Federations Cup in Odisha.
The tournament will be played from May 12 to May 15, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, this will be his first domestic competition since 2021 Federations Cup as well.

Earlier in the year, Neeraj had opened up about his training, his fitness and also on the 90m barrier. “I want to be in best possible shape before Paris Olympics. My training sessions have gone off really well so far. I always lay stress on fitness along with strength and technique. This is the best I have felt in a long time but I must add that training and competition are not the same. When you wear the India jersey, the feeling is different, the josh (energy) is unbelievable,” Neeraj had said to SAI Media.
He had went on to say, that the 90m mark is not that important, if he remains injury-free. “What matters to me is staying 100 per cent fit, being consistent during the season and delivering on the day that matters. I think there are mistakes to fix and looking at the increasing competition all around, one has to keep improving. The road will close if you think you have done it all,” he said.
