Harendra Singh takes head coach position of Indian Women’s Hockey Team

Harendra Singh joins Indian Women's Hockey Team as head coach, Official announcement by Hockey India after Loksabha Elections

Harendra Singh has taken up the the position as the head coach of the Indian senior women’s team. Though Hockey India is yet to announce on the decision, but it is expected that the official announcement will be done after the Loksabha Elections. The women’s team is without a permanent head coach since the Janneke Schopman left.

Harendra Singh has previously won Dronacharya award was the recent coach of the USA men’s hockey team. However, he returned to India to join the women’s camp last week. Reports claim that Singh selected a group of 33 players in the trials that was held on 6th and 7th April.

Target for Harendra Singh

Not just fixing the team, Harendra Singh is also finalising the support staff of the team. In his previous tenure for India, the senior men’s won bronze in the 2018 Asian Games. This was followed by the hosts finishing fifth in the FIH World Cup.

Back in 2021, Harendra Singh left for USA. He coached the senior men’s team which defeated India to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024. He will now have a tough job on his hands. His target is to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics with the Indian squad.
