Gulveer Singh sets national record in 5000m race at Portland Track Festival, overtakes Avinash Sable

Gulveer Singh overtook Avinash Sable to set a new national record in men's 5000m race at the Portland Track Festival in the USA.

Gulveer Singh overtook Avinash Sable to set a new national record in men’s 5000m race at the Portland Track Festival in the USA. The Asian Games medalist finished second in the race, clocking at 13:18.92. The record was previously held by Avinash Sable – 13:19.30 – set at Sound Running On Track Fest in Los Angeles in 2023.

Gulveer Singh sets national record in 5000m race

Previous record holder Avinash Sable did not finish the race despite participating in the event. It is to be noted that Indian athletes are yet to breach the Paris 2024 Olympic entry standard of 13:05.00 for the men’s 5000m event.
