Why it is a historic victory for Bangladesh?
- Bangladesh has become 1st team to beat New Zealand in New Zealand since 2017.
- New Zealand last time lost a Test match at home back in 2017 against South Africa,
- Before victory in the 1st test, Bangladesh had never won any match in New Zealand
- Furthermore, Bangladesh had only beaten Australia at home and are yet to win a Test match against India, South Africa, and Pakistan – with victory against New Zealand at least one box is ticked.
- In fact, in 127 Test matches that Bangladesh have played since 2000, they have won only 15 including one against Australia and England at home.
What a way to start the year for bangladesh cricket. Big congratulations to captain, players and coaching staff.

Even New Zealand’s wicketkeeping coach Luke Ronchi believes Bangladesh will have the upper hand on Day 5. “We lost crucial wickets at a poor time. All in all, Bangladesh have had the upper hand on us for quite a massive part of this test,” Luke Ronchi said.
Bangladesh, however, are cautious. Ross Taylor is an experienced batsman and can play through any bowling attack. He is batting on 33 will aim to continue adding as much as he can. In the tail end, Tim Southee, Rachin Ravindra and Kyle Jamieson can all frustrate Bangladesh bowlers.

Furthermore, Bangladesh will be wary of Kiwi pace attack in the fourth innings. The likes of Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee besides Neil Wagner can wreck Bangladesh batting despite excellent efforts in the first innings.
“This is very simple that tomorrow is a new morning. The wicket will not be easy tomorrow. The wicket is changing day after day. We will try our best to dismiss them in the first hour and chase the remaining runs. And it will not be easy to chase. We are keeping our head cool,” Liton Das said at the end of Day 4.
