Former Indian player RP Singh has hailed Tilak Varma as the “future of Indian cricket” after the youngster played a quickfire 39 off 22 balls on his T20I debut. Varma came in at the number four spot after India slipped to 28-2 in the IND vs WI 1st T20. The southpaw opened his account in international cricket with a bang, hitting a six on the second ball he faced.
Varma had impressed everyone playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL (Indian Premier League) in the last two seasons. The left-hander tonked Alzarri Joseph for two consecutive sixes over the deep square leg boundary to start the proceedings.
After the match, the former India pacer heaped praise on Varma, despite India losing the match.

“It was an extremely good knock. I feel the future (of Indian cricket) is hidden in him. We are all searching for a left-handed middle-order batter, and Tilak Varma can be seen from that angle. He opened his account with a six and then hit a second six as well. The best six was the third one that he hit over cover. It is not that easy to hit a six over extra cover,” RP Singh said on Jio Cinema.
After making his debut, Varma said “It was a childhood dream of mine to play for India. I never thought that the opportunity would come so early for me.”
“Never expected that the opportunity would arrive this early because after the Under-19 World Cup the Covid-19 pandemic hit and everything came to a stop. I visualise winning the world cup for my team. This though always keeps running in my mind, I visualise it many times.” Tilak Varma added.
