The Indian team were keen on getting a tour game before the summit clash, to get back into the red ball mode after the IPL 2023. Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and others, whose IPL 2023 campaign ended, will travel to England on Tuesday. The first batch comprises a set of net bowlers and stars that won’t be in contention in the playoffs. Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur are also expected to leave to begin preparation for the match against Australia. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Co will arrive at a later date after their IPL campaign has ended. As per Cricbuzz, the BCCI have logistics planned for all days until the 30th.

The players who will stay back in India for the IPL playoffs include skipper Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, KS Bharat and Ajinkya Rahane. Cheteshwar Pujara is already playing county cricket in England.

With the full squad only available on June 1, there might not be enough time for a practice game. the BCCI were in talks with ECB to arrange a 3-day game for the Indian team, but the possibility looks remote. On their last tour of England, India played a warm-up game against Leicestershire. Now, however, the Indian team management is mulling an intra-squad practice match to get the players going as per Cricbuzz.

Intra-squad practice matches were the norm during COVID-19 times and with India travelling with a large contingent, most of the squad can get a chance to hone their skills. Alongside their 15-man squad, India have three travelling reserves and net bowlers, boosting their numbers.

India’s squad for WTC final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk).

Standby players: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav.
