Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars Highlights: The final of the PSL 2023 lived up to the expectations as Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars clinched a thriller against Multan Sultans to lift their second successive PSL title. With this title win, Qalandars became the first team to successfully defend the PSL title.

Multan Sultans, led by Mohammed Rizwan, came close to chasing down the challenging target of 201, but were stopped just short by Lahore Qalandars’ brilliant death bowling, losing the match by just a run.
Sultans were needed 13 runs off the final over after smashing 22 runs in the penultimate over. However, Zaman Khan gave away just one boundary in his 6 balls to snatch the win for Qalandars.

Qalandars skipper Afridi was the star of the final as his incredible all-round performance led his team to PSL glory. Afridi scored 44 off just 15 balls to take Qalandars’ target to over 200 and later picked up 4 wickets to restrict Sultans to 199.
Abdullah Shafique (65 off 40) was the top scorer for Lahore Qalandars, while Rilee Rossouw (52 off 32) was the best batter for the Sultans.
After the win, delighted Shaheen credited the entire team for pulling off a win.
“Second final, second win, credit to the entire team. It was a team effort. It went to the last ball but we didn’t give up. We had the belief that we’d win the final. I couldn’t pick early wickets but I was able to pick 3 crucial wickets and put my team on top”, Afridi said after the game.
Meanwhile, losing captain Mohammad Rizwan admitted that they had the batting to chase down the target but couldn’t finish it well.
“There is always pressure in finals. 200 is a big target but we had the batting to chase it down. We were on track but just couldn’t finish the game. Credit goes to the entire team for getting us this far. Bowlers did their job when needed and the batters also performed to perfection. Lot of the special performers of the season were in my team. Only if we had got the title. But Shaheen and his boys played really well, and they deserve the title. It’s an achievement to reach the finals and we’ve done it thrice in a row now. It’s a great feeling“, Rizwan said in the post-match presentation.
