MS Dhoni will return to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai after three years for the upcoming IPL 2023 season. Having last played there in 2019, the CSK skipper returns to his adopted home in what is his final IPL season. Chennai Super Kings kick off their campaign vs GT on 31st March, but it is only on April 3rd when they host LSG that Dhoni comes back home.
CSK play all seven of their home games in Chennai. The Stadium authorities have been waiting for the season with two new stands also opened for the fans. Chennai and Dhoni were separated for two years when CSK was suspended. He received a warm welcome on return, with more than 12,000 fans arriving just to watch him practice.
Dhoni has played for CSK in all their seasons in the IPL. The 2011 World Cup-winning captain has won four titles with CSK and has built a fortress at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. His final game at his adopted ground will be on May 14 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He could still return should CSK qualify for the playoffs and the matches be held at the Stadium. BCCI are yet to announce the dates and venues for the knockout stages.
