Hyderabad E-Prix cancelled as Telangana Govt breaches contract, Jehan Daruvala with no home race

Hyderabad E-Prix cancelled after Telangana fails to sign Host City Agreement

After just the inaugural season, there won’t be any Hyderabad E-Prix in 2024. Formula E went on to claim that the Host City Agreement has not been fulfilled, leading them to pull out of the tournament. The event was supposed to take place on 10th Feb but owing to the breach in contract by the Telangana Govt, Formula E has cancelled the event.

The first race took place back on 11th Feb 2023. After a successful event, Formula E was set to return to India for the second time this year as a part of their multi-year deal. But with the breach in contract, the event now gets cancelled.

“The cancellation comes following a decision by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD), under the control of the Government of Telangana, not to fulfil the Host City Agreement signed on 30 October 2023,” the Formula E said in a statement.

Formula E Operations (FEO) has been left with no choice other than to formally give notice to MAUD that it is in breach of contract. FEO is considering its position and what steps it may take under the Host City Agreement and applicable laws. All of FEO’s rights in that regard are reserved.

The Hyderabad E-Prix would have been the only official FIA World Championship event in India in 2024 and was part of a multi-year agreement between Formula E and the Government of Telangana.

Jehan Daruvala Disappointed

India’s very own Formula E driver Jehan Daruvala was left disappointed by the decision. The Indian racer claimed that he wished for a home race but that won’t be the case as the Hyderabad E-Prix gets cancelled.

Really disappointed, was looking forward to my home race!🇮🇳😔… But the new season is just around the corner – so full focus on Mexico, coming up next week 😁,” wrote Daruvala on his social media platform.
