Most Grand Slam Titles: Rafael Nadal on Sunday created Tennis history as he clinched his 22nd Grand Slam title by winning the 2022 French Open. The year started with the Big 3 of Tennis who were on level with 20 Grand Slam victories each. Nadal won his second Australian Open title in January this year as he went ahead of his rivals, by winning his 21st Grand Slam title. Now by getting his hands on the 14th French Open title, Rafael Nadal became bigger than his generational rivals and upped his tally by adding another major to it. He is half-way to a calendar year Grand Slam with still Wimbledon and US Open remaining this year.

  • Rafael Nadal: 22
  • Novak Djokovic: 20
  • Roger Federer: 20
  • Pete Sampras: 14

This is a phenomenal feat for someone coming back from a foot injury that almost cost his career. Nadal missed the most of last year with the injury and made a miraculous come back this year by winning the Australian Open title, where he defeated World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in a gruesome 5-hour battle to create history.

After that, this year, just before the French Open, Nadal’s foot injury resurfaced during his third round loss to Denis Shapovalov. At the French Open too, Nadal had to play all his matches by taking anti-inflammatory injection before every match. He showed no discomfort during his matches and showed his class by reaching the final. At the summit clash, he was at his dominant best as he defeated Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.

With the victory he has won 14 French Open titles, 2 Australian Open titles, 2 Wimbledon titles and 4 US Open titles.

Most Grand Slam victories in the history of Tennis

  • Margaret Court: 24
  • Serena Williams: 23
  • Rafael Nadal: 22
  • Steffi Graf: 22

While Nadal is leading the tally with most Grand Slam wins on the ATP circuit, he has equalled Steffi Graff’s tally of 22 Grand Slam wins. He still trails Margaret Court and Serena Williams tally of grand slam wins.
