Dhawan got starts for Punjab Kings this year with three scores of 30+ but couldn’t convert them into a big score. Today at Pune, right from ball one, Dhawan and his opening partner Mayank Agarwal, got the team off to a great start. While Mayank took on the role of the aggressor, Dhawan initially anchored the innings. The pair stuck together a 97-run stand for the opening wicket.
When Mayank got out after scoring 52, Dhawan was at 34 off 25 balls. Only from then on, he decided to shift his gears and went on a scoring spree. He reached his 50 off 37 balls. Depsite the fall of two quick wickets, Dhawan took on the responsibilty of ensuring his team score a big total. In the 17th over he decided to take on Basil Thampi and slammed a six over deep-midwicket. He went for another shot, looking to hit over the fielder at long on, but mistimed it straight to the fielder to depart after scoring a well-made 70.
With the knock, Dhawan has now entered the Top 3 in Orange Cap list, having scored 197 runs in five matches. He is just 21 runs behind table-topper Jos Buttler, who has scored 218 runs so far.
