“They paid a lot of money for him, and he’s just sat on that golden seat in the dugout rather than earning his keep in the middle,” former England spinner Graeme Swann said.
“I want to see him play and I think a lot of other people will be questioning why he’s not playing. But you think surely he’s got to come back into it at some point,” he added.
- Million-dollar batter Tim David has proved to be the most expensive benchwarmer in IPL history. He had amassed 278 runs at a strike rate of 194 in the recently-concluded PSL.
- MI have picked him only two of their first seven fixtures as he managed just 12 & 1 and subsequently dropped.
- Teen prodigy Dewald Brevis seems to be keeping Tim David out of the playing XI. He was picked for Rs 3 crore at mega auction and has managed 121 runs in five matches including 25-ball 49 and 13-ball 31.
- The other player who has been keeping him out is Kieron Pollard. The former West Indian captain has been off-colour but MI have persisted with the veteran.
Meanwhile, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardena has confirmed that any changes to the line-up would depend on their opposition.
“We’ve got a young group, which we are giving a few opportunities … to see if something sparks for us,” he said.
“At the same time, we need to keep the core going as well, that’s important. It all depends on how we set ourselves up tactically against the opposition and conditions,” he added.
