FIFA is facing embarrassment after Salt Bae was allowed on the pitch and touched the trophy, in contravention of their rules. Salt Bae, or Nusrat Gocke, who got famous after his viral video, was seen posting images of himself posing with a couple of Argentine players with the trophy in his hand. Not everyone is allowed to touch the WC trophy, and it looks like Salt Bae is in clear violation of the same.

Fifa’s website states: “Its current design dates back to 1974. As one of the most recognised sports symbols in the world and a priceless icon, the original Fifa World Cup Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of people, which includes former winners of the Fifa World Cup and heads of state.”

As one can see in the video above, Messi is approached and grabbed by the arm by Salt Bae, and Leo shakes his hand and moves on. Salt Bae has not had enough. He yanks Messi’s arm again as he wants a picture, while you can clearly see Messi doesn’t seem too interested in the same. It seemed as though the chef did succeed, as he posted an image of the two of them.
FIFA has still not responded as to how Salt Bae was given access to the trophy. The access to the pitch is severely restricted and even French President, Emmanuel Macron, has been criticized as he went onto the pitch to console Kylian Mbappe. People suspect that since Infantino and Salt Bae have quite a close relationship, this was possible for the chef.
