Although Mercedes Team Boss Toto Wolff and Hamilton have repeatedly insisted that they have all the intention to put pen on paper soon. However, this delay is inadvertently giving rise to various theories. Hamilton has seen unprecedented success with the Silver Arrows. He came with the team as a single world champion and since then has shattered every glass ceiling in a spectacular fashion.

However, he hasn’t been getting an adequate response from the team in terms of the car performance. Even a driver as great as Lewis is not able to extract the performance from the W-14. The only plausible explanation for it would be that the car truly has nothing much to offer. He even came out in protest a while ago saying the team did not take a few of his suggestions up while developing their latest machinery. Now, recent sources suggest if push comes to shove, Mercedes has even decided on a replacement for their luminary. The name might surprise a few.

Sergio Perez to replace Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes: Reports

During a significant part of his career, Hamilton never shied away from the fact that he is curious to explore how it would be to “drive in red”. Now that the opportunity presents itself, with huge bucks to play for, it won’t be outrageous if Lewis decides to go for it.

While speculating the replacement of the 7x world champ, F1 juggernaut has been pointing towards Charles Leclerc for a while now. The Monegasque driver has allegedly been in touch with the Silver Arrows for that seat. However, recent reports reveal a shocking new update. As per GPFans.com, “In line with these, a name has reappeared in the mix that could occupy the empty seat of Mercedes. That is none other than the veteran driver Sergio Checo Pérez, who is currently signed with Red Bull.”

As of now, Checo is contractually bound to drive for Red Bull till 2024. So if this transaction were to happen, it would mean Mercedes buying him out of his existing contract. However, Toto Wolff categorically refuted all these claims. “It’s complete bullshit. I have never called Sergio. He is a good guy and I respect him, but I have never spoken to him and I have not been in contact with any other pilot,” said Wolff as reported by GPFans.
