In the photo shared on her official Instagram account, the couple were seen holding the baby and the caption read “The most beautiful, challenging, and rewarding gift our little family could ask for.” In the caption Sharapova also revealed the birth date of the child using Roman Numerals, according to which it is known that the child was born on 1st July.
Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, who retired from Tennis in 2020, is engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkes. The couple have been dating since 2018 and they got engaged in December 2020. On her 35th birthday in April, Sharapova had announced that she and Gikes were expecting an addition to their family and even posted a photo showing her baby bump.
Sharapova rose to prominence as a 17-year old after winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2004 Wimbledon. She then became world No.1 in August 2005 while aged just 18. She then went on to win two French Open titles and one each at Australian Open and US Open. She has also won 36 career WTA titles in total. Apart from her Grand Slam titles, she has also won the silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Although living in the US since a young age, she competed under the Russian Flag and is the only Russian woman to have won a career Grand Slam.
