After sealing a 5-0 aggregate triumph over Nottingham Forest with a 2-0 victory in the semifinal second leg on Wednesday at Old Trafford, Manchester United easily advanced to the Carabao Cup final. Anthony Martial, a substitute, and Fred, a midfielder, both scored in the second half to bring an end to a tie that had already been effectively decided by Man United’s 3-0 victory at the City Ground a week prior.

Ten Hag chose to rest a few key players, starting Marcus Rashford and David de Gea on the bench in order to win a trophy in his debut season at Old Trafford. But aside from that, it was another excellent starting lineup with players like Raphael Varane, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro.

Brennan Johnson was Forest’s greatest threat on the other end, just as he had been in the first leg. After 34 minutes, the forward’s quickness allowed him to get a shot off from the right side of the box, but it was straight at Tom Heaton, who was filling in for De Gea in the Man United goal.

The main topic of conversation for the majority of the second half was Johnson and Alejandro Garnacho’s ongoing conflict. But shortly past the hour mark, Ten Hag brought on Rashford, Sancho, and Martial, which significantly increased the home team’s offensive threat.

The impasse was broken quickly after it had been established. Rashford had a shot blocked in the 73rd minute, and Martial was there to pounce on the rebound and score. Three minutes later, Rashford contributed again.
