It was the away side who got off to the brighter start with Jakob Moder going through on goal and forcing David de Gea into a smart save after only five minutes. After that early scare Ralf Rangnick’s men started to enjoy a bit more of the ball but were struggling to find any gaps in Brighton’s well-organised defence.
De Gea was the man to save United once again towards the end of the half as he outstretched to his right and palmed away Moder’s header. After the break and totally against the run of play Ronaldo skipped past three defenders and ended his goal draught with a brilliant strike.
Things got even worse for Graham Potter’s men soon after as Lewis Dunk was sent off after a lengthy VAR check following a foul on Anthony Elanga. And into injury time Bruno Fernandes raced through and completed a good night for United.
