They have successfully defended 137-run total to beat Galle Gladiators by 24 runs. While skipper Kusla Mendis led the attack for Gladiators, his half-century went in vain. Earlier, some terrific bowling by Galle Gladiators helped them bowl out Jaffna Kings for just 137. Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim, Nuwan Thushara, Nuwan Pradeep and Iftikhar Ahmed bagged two wickets each. Dunith Wellalage and Shoaib Malik top-scored with 30 each.
The tournament will follow a double round-robin format for the league stage. It will be followed by the playoffs. The top-four teams at the end of league stage will qualify for playoffs. The first and second-placed teams will play in Qualifier 1. The third and fourth-placed will face each other in the Eliminator. The winning side of the Qualifier 1 will go straight to the finals. Meanwhile, the winner of the Eliminator will take on the loser of Qualifier 1 for a place in the title decider.
