They may only be top of the table for a few hours as Man City face Burnley shortly and a win for them would send them back to the summit, but Liverpool face City next weekend in a huge title clash. Meanwhile Watford remain 18th, three points from safety and they’ll face Leeds next time out.

Liverpool climbed above Manchester City to go top of the Premier League table after a nervy 2-0 win over Watford. Roy Hodgson returned to Anfield with Watford as he looked to put a dent in Liverpool’s title charge. Scorers: Jota 21′, Fabinho (PEN) 89′
Diogo Jota with the opener – But it was the home side who looked most dangerous early on with Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota stretching the Hornets defence. And it was the Portuguese forward who opened the scoring on 21 minutes with a smart header.
Into the second half and it was Watford who went closest to scoring soon after the break as Cucho Hernandez was played through but fired his effort just wide. Liverpool were looking nervy with Jürgen Klopp fuming on the sidelines about his team’s lack of intensity.
Liverpool’s second goal – But they eventually did get their second goal as Juraj Kucka fouled Diogo Jota in the area and Fabinho slotted in the resulting penalty.
