The Thiruvambady team stole the show at the legendary ‘Kudamattam,’ which began just after six o’clock in the evening, with a performance of an outstanding lit cutout of Argentinian football icon Lionel Messi carrying the World Cup. Kudamattam is the rapid exchange of multicoloured decorative silk parasols by people perched on elephants.

This year’s Pooram featured more than just the designer and LED parasols of gods and goddesses. Thiruvambady truly packed a punch as they hauled out cutouts of Argentina’s Lionel Messi on caparisoned elephants. As the lights dimmed, a message in LED flashed across the screen: “Thiruvambadydevaswothinte poora ashamsakal”.

Indian football hero IM Vijayan, who is an Argentina fan, was present in New Delhi when Ambassador Hugo Javier Gobbi presented Pinarayi with the shirt.
