As per the reports, the former president called Messi a “sewer rat” and “a hormonal dwarf” in WhatsApp messages by a former member. According to Forbes report citing Spanish daily El Periodico the Whatsapp group in which the comments were made reportedly had Bartomeu, former general director Oscar Grau and other ex-board members including financial director Pancho Schroder, director of Strategy and Innovation Javier Sobrino. However, all these members resigned from their position once Bartomeu quit the club.
Former players Lionel Messi and Gerrard Pique’s contracts were made public by El Mundo in 2021. As per the report, former general director Oscar Grau and ex-head of legal services Roman Gomez Ponti have been reportedly identified by Catalan police as the party responsible for leaking details of Messi and Pique.

The report further states that Ponti allegedly told Bartomeu “really, you can’t be such a good person with this sewer rat. The club has given him everything and he has dedicated himself to marking a dictatorship of signings, transfers, renewals, sponsorships just for him, etc,”
He further wrote “And above all the accumulation of blackmail and rudeness that the club and those of us who work [for it] have suffered from this hormonal dwarf who owes Barca his life… ah. But when things go wrong [Covid-19] you receive the mythical WhatsApp [message]: ‘President, lower the salaries of others, but don’t touch Luis [Suarez] and me.'”
