The Argentine UFC fighter shed his honest opinion on Lionel Messi hours before Argentina beat France in the FIFA World Cup. He didn’t hold back from comparing Messi with sports legends like Michael Jordan or Muhammad Ali.

In a chat with TMZ Sports, Santiago Ponzinibbio said, “I think it’s Michael Jordan. You know these, the legend of the sport, the all-time. I think Messi is in this level right. Michael Jordan, you know, or Tom Brady, these kind of names. In the history of the sport, I think Messi is around there. You know Muhammad Ali, the big names.”

This isn’t the first time Santiago Ponzinibbio has applauded Lionel Messi. The UFC fighter didn’t hesitate to criticize Canelo Alvarez a few weeks ago after the Mexican boxer threatened Messi. Following Argentina’s win over Mexico, Lionel Messi was spotted cleaning his locker room with the Mexican jersey.

Canelo Alvarez then slammed Lionel Messi on social media, grabbing worldwide attention. Several footballers came in support of Messi and ridiculed Canelo for his approach. Argentine fighter Santiago Ponzinibbio also supported his country’s hero and offered to fight Canelo Alvarez. However, Canelo apologized later for his remarks and seems to have settled his differences with Lionel Messi.
