Ligue 1 Live streaming: Football fans can potentially watch Lionel Messi live on TV after Reliance backed Viacom 18 bagged the official broadcast rights for Ligue 1 in India. Reliance have made their intent clear by venturing into sports broadcasting, having already signed deals to telecast the Serie A, LaLiga and the Abu Dhabi T10 in the country. Ligue 1 marks their fifth big acquisition over the past few months, following their agreement to also broadcast the AFC Cup.

The Ligue 1 season kicked off earlier this month, but the Indian fans had no access to mainstream broadcast, with TV5 Monde being the sole broadcaster of select matches. However, that scenario is set to change with Ligue 1 having listed Colors Viacom 18 as their official broadcast partners on their website.

While Viacom 18 are yet to confirm the development, it would continue their trend of acquiring major leagues, and now have broadcast rights to three of the traditional top five leagues in Europe. The deals for LaLiga and Serie A span three years, and a similar agreement is expected for the Ligue 1 Live streaming rights. The games will also be available on Voot and Jio TV.

Reliance Jio are planning a major entry into the sports broadcasting industry, and have made the right waves so far. Reliance Jio have previously bid for both IPL Rights & BCCI digital rights in past and will eye the IPL broadcasting rights when they go up later this year. Reliance’s emergence adds fierce competition in an industry dominated by the Star Network, which currently owns the BCCI, IPL and the Premier League rights in India.
