With two solid body kicks in the first round, Edwards got off to a promising start. Usman, 31, was rattled by Edwards’s superior speed, but the challenger briefly took him down in round two before the two landed powerful blows to each other.

Many assumed that the fight was tied at 28 points apiece going into the fourth round when Usman again battled Edwards to the floor early in the third and Edwards deducted a point for grabbing the fence.
The fourth round followed suit, with Edwards trying to maintain his distance and Usman pressing in for a close encounter.
With his title defence on the line, Edwards avoided two more takedown attempts in the deciding round and caught Usman with an uppercut, but he absorbed a shot to the body.

On August 4, at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City, Edwards ended Usman’s lengthy reign as champion with a kick to the head and neck.
