Messi’s trip was sponsored, and he was in Saudi Arabia to attend a non-football-related event. However, PSG took a dim view of the situation and decided to suspend him. The club has not yet announced what further action, if any, will be taken.

“Hello. Well, I wanted to make this video after everything that’s going on. First of all, I apologise again to my team-mates at the club. I honestly thought that we were going to have the day off after the game as we had done before. I had organised this trip to Saudi Arabia, which I had previously cancelled and I couldn’t go. Once again, I apologise for what I did. So here I am, waiting to see what the club wants to do, nothing more. A hug”, Messi said in the video.

The suspension means that Messi will miss the upcoming Ligue 1 matches against Troyes and Ajaccio, but he may return for the match against Auxerre on May 21. During his suspension, the 35-year-old will not be able to train or play with the team.

PSG is currently at the top of the standings with 75 points from 33 matches, five points ahead of second-placed Olympique de Marseille. The club’s decision to suspend Messi has sparked debate among football fans and pundits, with some criticizing the severity of the punishment and others praising the club for upholding discipline.
