During the off-season in League of Legends, we see a lot of roster shuffles where players may switch teams in a region or even travel to a different region to join a new team. After this reorganization, the Spring Split is the first main stage event where these teams with their new roster start to compete with others and check how much better their synergies are against others. League of Legends 2022 esports have begun in all the four major regions

The Spring Split season has already officially started in all of the major regions. League of Legends Pro League (LPL) began the earliest on 10th January, followed by League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) which started on 12th January. The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) has also begun on 14th January. Only the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) is holding its Lock-In Stage because of its new format. The LCS Spring Split will begin from 5th February.

Here is an overview of how the Spring Split is played in each of the four major regions of League of Legends.

League of Legends Pro League (LPL)

The LPL is conducting multiple best-of-3 match series daily since 10th January. It will continue till 27th January, after which there will be holidays for the Chinese Lunar New Year. The matches will again resume from 10th February and will continue in a similar fashion till 20th March (Group Stage) with some minor changes here and there. The total prize pool of the tournament is ¥ 4,200,000 CNY.

The reason why LPL has so many matches is that it has the highest number of teams in its circuit which is 17 teams. The number is much more than the other regions where only 10 teams participate. To ensure that all the teams get an equal number of matches, LPL follows a single round-robin format in its group stage. The top ten teams advance from Group Stage into the Playoffs. Even the playoffs are divided into two phases to accommodate 10 teams. The first phase is the King of the Hill which is then followed by the regular double-elimination format. The winning team of the LPL Spring Split 2022 will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK)

In the LCK, the teams are fighting in a best-of-3 match series for five days a week. It will also have a Lunar New Year break from 31st January till 8th February after which the Spring Split 2022 will continue till 20th March (Group Stage). The total prize pool of the tournament is ₩ 375,000,000 KRW.

The LCK has the standard ten teams in its Group Stage. It follows a double round-robin format in the Group Stage and only six teams will qualify for the Playoffs. In the Playoffs, the format is single-elimination with teams competing in a best-of-5 match series against each other. The winners of the LCK Spring Split 2022 will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

League of Legends European Championship (LEC)

The LEC has begun on 14th January and it also has ten total teams participating in it. The opening and closing weeks of the Group Stage will have games on three days. Otherwise, all the weeks in between have games on only 2 days. There are 5 matches held on each playing day. It will continue this schedule till 6th March (Group Stage). The total prize pool of the tournament is €200,000 EUR.

Such a high number of matches on each playing day is possible because each team is playing only a best-of-1 match against each other in the Group Stage. This stage has a double round-robin format and only 6 teams can qualify for the Playoffs from here. The Playoffs stage has a double-elimination format and all teams play a best-of-5 match series against each other. The winners of the LEC Spring Split 2022 will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

League of Legends Championship Series (LCS)

The LCS has a new format update from 2022. It is why there is a Lock-In Stage first where teams can test their new roster while also competing professionally. This Lock-In Stage has a total prize pool of $150,000 USD. There are ten teams competing in the Group Stage and only four teams will advance for the Playoffs. The Playoffs have a single-elimination format. In the Group Stage, teams play in a best-of-1 match series, and in the Playoffs, teams play in a best-of-3 match series. Only the Semi-Finals and Grand Finals will have a best-of-5 match series.
