Less than a week ago, Roger Federer announced that he would hang up his boots after playing the Laver Cup this year and during his press conference on Wednesday, he confirmed that he will feature in the tournament only in the doubles. While a possible pair-up with Rafael Nadal was expected, the Laver Cup has confirmed it by releasing the line-up for Day 1 of the tournament much to the delight of the fans.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal shared one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the sport over the last two decades as they have played some of the greatest Tennis matches while facing each other in the singles in the past. However both the players share a great camaraderie off the Tennis court and have a great friendship and it will be only fitting that Nadal partners Federer for his final game of his glittering 24-year career.
Both the players have played once together in the inaugural edition of the Laver Cup in 2017 but this time it is set to be an emotional moment for both the players as Federer will play for one last time before bidding goodbye to the sport. Both the players will be in action in the last contest of the day at the O2 Arena in London and Federer will want to sign off with a win.
Meanwhile, World No.2 Casper Ruud will take on Team World’s Jack Sock in the first singles match of the day. Stefanos Tsitsipas from Team Europe will then face Diego Schwartzman in the next singles tie, while Veteran Andy Murray will make his Laver Cup debut by facing Alex de Minaur.
