Aaron Finch in IPL 2022- 86 runs in 5 matches @16 (1 FIFTY)

Venkatesh Iyer in IPL 2022- 132 runs in 9 matches @16.4 (1 FIFTY)

Sam Billings in IPL 2022- 99 runs in 6 matches @19.8

Baba Indrajit in IPL 2022- 21 runs in 3 matches @7

  • Aaron Finch has failed to justify his place as an opener in IPL 2022.
  • Baba Indrajith couldn’t prove to be a bold pick at the top of the order and is likely to make way for Sam Billings’ comeback
  • Venkatesh Iyer is set to return to the fold as he has better stats as compared to both Indrajit & Finch. He might open with Sam Billings in a new gamble by KKR.
  • Harshit Sharma could make room for experienced Umesh Yadav’s comeback with the IPL playoffs race on the line for KKR.

KKR head coach Brendan McCullum has backed Venkatesh Iyer for Playing XI contention.

“He didn’t get as many runs as he would have liked and we were forced to look at some other [opening] options, which is disappointing for someone who has represented India in the last seven-eight months on the back of what was a very good IPL last time in the UAE,” McCullum told after last game.

“It is frustrating for him and he is working hard in the nets and trying to get his spot back and that’ll certainly be a consideration. He is a real talent and has a good head on his shoulders. I know he is determined to take that next step and start to perform more regularly,” he added.

IPL 2022 Playoffs Race- Kolkata Knight Riders (9th, 8 Points): Shreyas Iyer & Co’s playoffs hopes are all but dashed after a crushing 75-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants. Even if KKR win all three matches, they will reach a maximum of 14 points and that may not be enough.

  • KKR need to win all of their 3 remaining matches.
  • Even after winning all three games, they can reach a maximum of 14 points.
  • With three teams locked in at 10 points each and three other teams above that mark, 14 points will not be enough to qualify.
  • DC Remaining Matches: MI, SRH, LSG
