Table Tennis Harmeet Desai: And in the tournament, Harmeet started slowly and the rustiness was visible as he lost a game to all his opponents throughout the course of the meet. But he used all his experience to find a away to overcome everyone and in the process grabbed his second domestic title after 2019. Incidentally. his last title also came in the South Zone ranking tournament.

“Honestly, I did not expect a title especially considering the lack of practice. But I’m really happy that I won and gave myself quite the wedding gift!” a jovial Harmeet told InsideSport.

Harmeet Desai JUST Married: 2019 was quite a good year for Harmeet as he had reached his personal best ranking of World No 60. He was dreaming of breaking into the top 50 and table tennis fans in India were dreaming of having three top players in that bracket. But things have not worked out the way Harmeet had envisaged as he currently stands at 73 in the world.

Table Tennis Harmeet Desai: Such is his zeal to achieve that goal, Harmeet has decided to focus on tournaments rather than going on his honeymoon. The Arjuna awardee says having a table tennis player as a wife means she will understand.

“The plan now is to focus fully on table tennis. I’m at an age where players usually reach their peak and that is the goal. And for that I want to play as many tournaments as possible and currently there are quite a few domestic tournaments followed by my league commitments in France. International tournaments should also begin soon if cases come under control.

“Krittwika understands. She is also a player. That is the best part about marrying in the same profession. The constant travelling, unfulfilled dreams can become a burden if your partner does not know the intricacies of an athlete’s life. But I have been lucky at that. Both of us know what the sport is all about, what sacrifices are needed and we can support each other in our endeavors,” Harmeet explained.

“We have a great squad this time around as well with great young players coming up. The hope is to carry on from where we left off and it is definitely possible. Personally, I would love to cap off this year by helping India win more medals and breaking into the top-50. Maybe then we can celebrate by going for our honeymoon!” Harmeet signed off.
