Guardiola vs Cancelo: Manchester City is taking part in UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul. However, ahead of the historical final, the reason behind Joao Cancelo’s departure from Etihad has surfaced.
Reportedly an incident happened in January when the Man City full-back refused to listen to Pep Guardiola at a meeting.
As per The Times, the Man City manager was talking with his players and a frustrated Cancelo didn’t show any intention to hear him and put in his earphones. After this, Guardiola urged Man City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain to offload the full-back and he was off to Bayern by the end of the month.

If we talk about Cancelo’s place in the first team then we would say Pep gave him fair chances this season. He was benched towards the end of 2022. The 29-year-old reportedly did not react well to being dropped before he was loaned to the Bundesliga giants.
Cancelo was in the plan of Barcelona during the winter transfer window. Braca boss Xavi claimed last month that Man City blocked the deal for the Portugal international. The loan deal included an option to sign the full-back outright at the end of the season but Thomas Tuchel is unlikely to activate it.
Earlier in winter, the Man City boss talked about Cancelo and revealed Cancelo is the type of player who does not react well to time on the bench. He explained, “Normally now he’s playing every day is the main reason.”
He also added, “There are players who accept more playing minutes, others are not happy and have to understand that and the reason why. Full commitment. We know each other much better, every player must be treated different. I got more time to know him, how sensitive he is, he has a big heart.”
