With the transfer season now being open, Mohun Bagan opted for some of the best fullbacks in the country to bolster their squad. With right-back Prabir Das joining Bengaluru FC and young Sumit Rathi touted to leave the club, the duo of Ashish and Ashique would light up both the flanks for the Mariners.
Both Ashish Rai and Ashique Kuruniyan are extremely talented full-backs who are offensive-minded and are versatile to play as wingers on both the flanks. With these signings, there is a strong indication from the Kolkata side and Juan Ferrando that the Green and Maroon brigade are unhappy after missing the title last season and are raring to go for the kill this season.

Ashique was delighted to join ATK Mohun Bagan and said, “I have experience in playing in Europe at the Junior stages. I have seen the preparations here (in Mohun Bagan) and they are excellent. It is a dream for any footballer to play in Kolkata, and ATK Mohun Bagan is the best club in the country. Coach Ferrando is here to guide me, and previous while playing for India at Salt Lake Stadium I have seen the passion and the excitement of the fans from Kolkata.”
“During the India matches, I have seen plenty of Green-Maroon Mohun Bagan flags. My sole ambition is to please all the Mohun Bagan fans. The aim is not to make the club win AFC Cup, Durand Cup, and the Indian Super League. I am eager to don the Green and Maroon jersey and play on the field,” he concluded.

Ashique Kuruniyan joins the Mariners from Bengaluru FC. The 25-year-old spent 4 seasons at Bengaluru where he played 39 games. 23-year-old Ashish Rai joins Mohun Bagan from Hyderabad FC where he spent 4 seasons and have featured in 48 games for the Nizams.

“It has been my dream to play in Kolkata for a long time. I immediately agreed as soon as I got the offer from Mohun Bagan.
