Well, those who follow him regularly might find it a little confusing as a couple of months ago, xQc advocated for the opposite of these recent statements. He stressed on the fact of ‘cancel culture’ not being “real”.

Back then, the 25-year old urged fellow streamers and content creators to stop reacting to people upset with them. “I don’t know why people have to react to this. They don’t have to. Cancel culture isn’t even real. Nobody is getting cancelled. Not a single person has been cancelled in the past years. Yet everyone makes a billion tweets and videos and they all sit around “I apologize x, y, z, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. They don’t have to. You can’t get cancelled!”

Eventually, he went through a shift of thoughts after giving room to people’s discussion on why ‘cancel culture’ is good, following which he revealed his outlooks changed too.

In the beginning, he started off by saying, “The way it’s being used makes me upset. Therefore, it’s wrong, and therefore, they should not be allowed to talk anymore because I don’t agree with this. That’s how people use cancel culture.”

Then he went on to explain the nuances of it which could instead have its own perks, where he flipped his earlier opinion.“You guys might say I’m wrong about this, but overall, cancel culture is a good thing. Sometimes, the legal system will fail. Sometimes, the legal system cannot operate on certain things”, xQc said.

He further solidified his points by saying, “It’s why sometimes it’s okay to hold somebody accountable and sh*t on them when they do dumb sh*t in public. That’s why cancelling them is a good thing. The problem is that not a lot of people actually get cancelled.”

xQc also expressed his wish on Twitter not being so “hypothetical” regarding cancelling people on various different opinions on the platform.

We can only speculate the reasons behind this sudden flip in opinions unless xQc opens up about it more. Although, till this point we know he wishes to stick somewhere in between the two schools of thought and wants to embrace the best of both.
