With a dominant all-around performance against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha, the Pretoria Capitals set the tone early in the SA20.

The St. George’s Park band kept a packed house dancing in the stands despite two interruptions from lightning and rain.

The Capitals dominated with bat and ball, scoring 193/6 against the Sunrisers before holding them to 170/5 for a 23-run victory.

Before all-rounders Jimmy Neesham (37 off 28 balls) and skipper Wayne Parnell (29 not out off nine balls) put the finishing touches on the innings, Phil Salt was the standout Capitals batterwith a magnificent 47-ball 77.

Rishabh Pant Ruled Out

Rishabh Pant’s absence leaves Delhi Capitals without a wicketkeeper. There are just two wicketkeepers available for DC, and neither of them is a full-time option. Although they are not routine keepers, Sarfaraz Khan and Phil Salt have maintained wickets at various levels.

Salt will have to serve as DC’s keeper because the team have no other options. Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket for DC, and head coach Ricky Ponting will look for a suitable replacement in the interim.

After a terrible car accident, Rishabh Pant tore ligaments in his knee and ankle. DC are in a tough spot because he will need surgery and will likely miss up to nine months of action. Ajit Agarkar, the DC assistant coach, has already made a suggestion that Phil Salt will play as WK in the IPL 2023.
