SRH Captaincy: Battle between Agarwal and Markram to be the next SRH leader, Bhuvneshwar Kumar in with oustide chance
Sunrisers Hyderabad have two options for captaincy — Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram. Mayank had an unsuccessful stint as Punjab Kings captain got the boot, but in the current Ranji season, Agarwal has shown he is not perturbed by the additional responsibility of being the leader. Also, SRH management had stated that the opening batter’s performance will be assessed in Ranji season before taking a call on his leadership.
Markram on the other hand is successfully leading SRH’s SA20 franchise. With the SA20 final slated for Saturday, his performance as the captain will be evaluated. Sunrisers Eastern Cape are through to the finals, and Markram’s form has also been scintillating His captaincy has also been spot-on in tense situations of the game. The only thing that could go against a South African batter is the experience of not leading the IPL team.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the other captaincy option for SRH. He has led in David Warner or Kane Williamson’s absence. But considering he has struggled with injuries too, his spot isn’t guaranteed either. If Markram wins the inaugural edition of the SA20 League, then SRH might be tempted to give him the captaincy. The verdict is likely to be out next week.
